Professional Master’s Programs
The ICS professional master’s programs prepare students for careers in industry through project-focused technical courses that promote teamwork and communication skills. These programs are aimed at students with technical background in computing who wish to further strengthen their preparation before entering the workforce or to career-changers with background in programming who wish to enter the information technology space. All but one of the ICS professional master’s programs are residential, and two of them offer a part-time option.
Master of Computer Science (MCS)
MCS is designed for students with background in computer science who wish to strengthen and deepen their expertise in all areas of the field, including algorithms, artificial intelligence, security, and software systems, through project-based learning and individual and collaborative assignments. Program duration is 15 months (full time), and instruction is in-person.
Master of Data Science (MDS)
MDS is designed for students with background in statistics, mathematics, or computer science and develops their understanding of the cornerstones of modern data science through a dual framework in Statistics and Computer Science. Program duration is 15 months (full time), and instruction is in-person. A part-time option is available.
Master of Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems (MECPS)
Offered jointly with the School of Engineering, MECPS offers advanced project-based courses focused on the design and analysis of embedded computer systems, including hardware, interfaces, operating systems, middleware, networking, and software. Program duration is 15 months (full time), and instruction is in-person.
Master of Human-Computer Interaction (MHCID)
This program offers an inclusive, interdisciplinary academic community geared toward highly successful professionals in user experience. MHCID graduates are prepared for a variety of careers, including user experience (UX) research and design, systems analysis, design research, product design, project management, usability evaluation, web development, and more. Program duration is 12 months (full time), and instruction is online.
Master of Software Engineering (MSWE)
MSWE is an advanced professional degree program designed to train software engineers coming from a variety of backgrounds and prepare them to work in the booming software industry in California and around the globe. Program duration is 15 months, and instruction is in-person. A part-time option is available.
Student Resources
Throughout their time at UCI, students enrolled in the ICS professional master’s programs have access to a dedicated Career Development team that offers a variety of career services and assists with professional placement resources.
